Matthias Fischer CEO & President Toyota Material Handling Europe

"As sustainability is strongly linked to our Toyota Values, many of our employees across Europe are helping us to always find improvements on issues that are most material to our stakeholders." Tom Schalenbourg, Director Sustainable Development, Toyota Material Handling Europe

Sustainability

We aim to be a reliable and responsible partner for your material handling operations. That’s why we offer transparency so you can rest assured we optimise your operation. Since 1 in 10 major injuries in European manufacturing happen with material handling equipment, and 80% of the accidents are caused by unsafe behaviour, we want to help you create a safe working environment.

MAXIMISE QUALITY AND CUSTOMER SAFETY

With our new quality strategy, our aim is to provide you with excellent quality, by being proactive and offering you attractive products that answer your needs.  “Quality in everything we do” is key in all processes; product development, purchasing, manufacturing and service.

Another key priority for us is your safety, we want to contribute to zero accidents in your workplace. By exchanging best practices, we believe we can make a difference in your operations.
We also see our continued partnership with EU-OSHA as an important contributor to evaluating our and your safety and have decided to support the new campaign “Lighten the load” which will run 2020-2022.

OPTIMISE OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE TO THRIVE

The ability to provide you with high-quality products and growing our business depends on the contributions of our people. It’s essential for us to attract, retain and develop qualified employees throughout our organisation. We have therefore developed throughout Europe a harmonised People Strategy, HR organisation and KPIs. This contributes to greater success in creating and sharing best practices in terms of attracting and retaining talent.

By 2021 every employee will have the tools and empowerment to contribute to the quality strategy. Everyone will receive job-appropriate training and development tools. Already over 5500 technicians are currently enrolled in STEP and ASEC activities, over 3000 factory workers will be part of quality control circles, and every employee will have access to tools such as 5S or project management courses.

MINIMISE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS

We aim to contribute to a zero-carbon society by 2050. Across our portfolio of products and solutions, we aim for zero emissions by 2050. For customers with ambitious targets for zero emissions, we will have electric and/or fuel cell options available across our entire product range by 2030. Li-ion batteries are already available on 90% of product families. By 2030, we also aim to fully map Scope 3 CO2 emissions from across our entire supply chain.

In our own operations, the target is to reach zero emissions by 2030. One critical priority to is to increase our energy efficiency. That is why, by 2025 every entity in Europe has a target to be ISO 50001 certified. The other priority is to switch to 100% renewable electricity by 2021. So far, we have achieved 90% across Europe in 2020. We will also explore possibilities to reduce water use and enhance recycling and reuse. Whilst operations are only a small part of our total footprint, this helps us to understand the sustainability journey our customers are on.
