A design that drives innovation
The Traigo_i is the flagship model in Toyota’s new Traigo48 electric forklift range, engineered specifically with integrated lithium-ion technology. Its design is inspired by the iconic shape of the katana, reflected in the dynamic frame line and accentuated cabin styling. This not only delivers a visually striking profile but also enhances operator comfort.
“We’re proud that our new electric counterbalanced forklift designed and built around lithium-ion: the Traigo_i earned not one, but two prestigious design awards, a testament to its innovation and excellence,” says José Maria Gener, Vice President Sales & Marketing at Toyota Material Handling Europe, “More than a powerful, durable truck, Toyota Traigo_i was developed to help businesses achieve greater productivity, reduce costs, and deliver an unmatched driving experience. This is innovation with purpose, a game changer for those who demand performance and value.”
The Red Dot Design Award is one of the world’s largest design competitions. Its iconic Red Dot Label is internationally recognised as a symbol of quality and excellence in design. The German Design Awards, presented by the German Design Council since 2012, rank among the most respected design competitions globally, celebrating products, communication and architectural design that push boundaries in form, function and user experience. The Traigo_i impressed the jury twice for its outstanding design quality, combining cutting-edge performance with an unmatched, ergonomic design that redefines the operator experience.
Performance meets ergonomics
The Toyota Traigo_i electric counterbalanced forklift has been designed specifically for use with lithium-ion batteries. The compact, integrated battery unit saves space inside and improves legroom, providing optimal comfort during long shifts.
The driver compartment, which is open on both sides and vibration-insulated, offers protection and a clear view. A reduced dashboard, small steering wheel and optional touchscreen enable intuitive operation and high productivity.
Beyond its award-winning design, the Traigo_i offers:
These features make the Traigo_i not just a design icon, but a game-changing solution for modern material handling operations.
A testament to Toyota’s Kaizen philosophy
The dual recognition from Red Dot and the German Design Awards reflects Toyota’s commitment to Kaizen, or continuous improvement. The Traigo_i exemplifies this principle, integrating energy efficiency, driver-centric ergonomics and distinctive product design into one powerful package.
With other award honours to its name, Toyota Material Handling Europe continues to lead with design excellence, meeting the needs of today’s operators. The award ceremony will take place on 6 February 2026, in Frankfurt, coinciding with the city's role as World Design Capital 2026.
